Oonchi Masjid, meaning 'High Mosque,' is a significant religious site located within the ChooMallah of Bhatti Gate in Lahore. Constructed on a raised platform requiring ascent via 10-12 steps, the mosque's original red brick cladding has been replaced with white stone. Its origins are debated, potentially dating back to the reigns of Akbar or Aurangzeb, with ambiguous inscriptions hindering precise dating. The facade features three sections adorned with Quranic verses. Currently functioning as both a mosque and an Islamic school (madrassa), visits are generally restricted to prayer times. Architectural features include arched openings, three shallow domes, and an ablution tank. While recent restorations have altered its original character, the mosque retains historical charm.
