The Durrani Cemetery is a significant historical site located near Wazir Bagh in Peshawar. It serves as the final resting place for members of the Durrani Empire, most notably Prince Akbar Khan, a hero of the Battle of Maiwand in 1878, and his father, Amir Sher Ali Khan. The cemetery is also the burial site of Sher Ali Khan’s mother, a Queen of Afghanistan. While some tombstones have unfortunately been vandalized and stolen, the graves remain and offer a poignant connection to Afghanistan’s and the region’s rich military and royal history. The site is particularly meaningful for those interested in the Battle of Maiwand and the legend of Malala of Maiwand.
