Gejjala Mantapa

Gejjala Mantapa is a historic structure located near the Vittala Temple in Hampi, Karnataka. The name refers to the anklets ('Gejje' in Kannada and Telugu) worn by dancers. While its exact purpose remains uncertain, theories suggest it served as a practice area for dancers, a temporary resting place for temple images during processions, or even a small assembly hall. Constructed from granite, the mantapa features rows of pillars adorned with detailed sculptures. Its relatively small size and peaceful location offer a respite from the more crowded areas of Hampi.
