Al-Shaheed Monument

The Al-Shaheed Monument, dedicated in 1983, stands as a powerful memorial to the Iraqi soldiers who perished during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). Designed by Iraqi architect Saman Kamal and sculptor Ismail Fattah Al Turk, the monument features a distinctive split dome structure, symbolizing the two halves of a broken sword. Inside, the walls are inscribed with the names of those who sacrificed their lives. The surrounding area includes a park and a reflecting pool, providing a space for contemplation and remembrance. It is a significant landmark in Baghdad, visible from many parts of the city.
