The Court Square Fountain is a prominent landmark in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, serving as a focal point for the city's historical narrative. Erected in 1885, the fountain itself is an ornate, cast-iron structure featuring the goddess Hebe. However, its location holds a much deeper and more complex history. Prior to the fountain's installation, this square was the central site for the largest slave market in Alabama. It also served as the location where Rosa Parks boarded the bus that led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and nearby buildings played roles in the start of the Civil War. Today, plaques and historical markers surround the fountain, acknowledging this multifaceted past.
