Aké is a relatively small Mayan archaeological site located near the city of Mérida, Mexico. It's distinguished by its peaceful atmosphere and the fact that it's rarely crowded, offering visitors a more intimate experience than more popular sites like Chichen Itza. The site includes several excavated structures, including pyramids, and notably features a colonial-era church constructed on top of one of the pyramids. Adjacent to the ruins is a working sisal factory, providing a glimpse into the region's historical economy. The site is off the beaten path, requiring a detour from the main highway, and amenities are limited.
