The Water Boils

The Water Boils (Hierve el Agua) is a remarkable natural site in Oaxaca, Mexico, featuring cascading rock formations that resemble frozen waterfalls. These formations are the result of mineral-rich springs depositing calcium carbonate over thousands of years. Visitors can explore the site, take in the panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, and experience the unique geological formations. While swimming is possible, the water quality is often noted as being less than ideal. Access involves a bus ride to Mitla followed by a combi-van journey, with several small fees collected along the way.
