Quiahuztlan Archaeological Zone is a pre-Hispanic necropolis located along the carretera 180 Cardel Nautla, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Believed to have housed around 15,000 inhabitants before the arrival of the Spanish, the site served as a burial ground for the Totonac people. It's situated beneath a prominent basalt outcrop and offers views of Punta Villa Rica, the location of Cortes's first landing in 1519. The site consists of numerous small structures, resembling miniature houses, arranged in rows, likely used for placing remains. The central area features reconstructed pyramids and earth platforms.
