The Great Hall of Stirling Castle, completed in 1503 for James IV, is the largest banqueting hall ever constructed in Scotland. This historically significant space was used for grand feasts, dances, and pageants. The hall features tall windows at the dais end, where the king and queen would have sat, and was originally heated by five large fireplaces. Galleries were provided for minstrels and trumpeters, adding to the hall’s regal atmosphere. The exterior is notable for its 'Royal Gold' harling, a distinctive stucco-like finish that recreates its appearance from the 16th century.
