The Kirriemuir Camera Obscura is a rare and fascinating attraction, one of only four remaining in Scotland. Originally commissioned by J.M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan, and gifted to the town, it’s housed within a pavilion on Kirrie Hill. The camera obscura utilizes a lens and mirrors to project an image of the surrounding landscape onto a viewing surface inside, providing a unique and immersive experience. The attraction is now maintained and operated by a dedicated team of local volunteers who have undertaken significant restoration work. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views, learn about the history of the camera obscura, and appreciate its connection to J.M. Barrie and the inspiration for Peter Pan.
