The East Gate, formally known as Jingfumen, is one of the few remaining gates of the original Taipei City Walls, constructed in 1884 during the Qing Dynasty. While most of the city walls were demolished during the Japanese colonial period, the East Gate has been restored and stands as a testament to Taipei’s past. It’s situated in a busy traffic intersection, making close-up viewing challenging. The gate’s design features a stately facade and a prominent roof, similar to other gates like the North Gate, South Gate, and Little South Gate. It is crafted with stones from the Dazhi area and boasts a raised stone platform and a hip-and-gable roof on its second floor.
