Qala'at al-Hosn, also known as Crac des Chevaliers, is a historic castle located west of Homs, Syria. Situated at an elevation of 2300 feet, it was strategically important during the Crusades and remained remarkably intact due to its surrender through negotiation rather than siege, and subsequent respect shown by conquering forces. Originally built in the early Umayyad period, it was significantly expanded by the Knights Hospitaller. While heavily damaged during the Syrian Civil War, it remains a significant historical landmark. Access is currently restricted, often requiring special permission from the Syrian army.
