Nissanka Latha Mandapaya is a significant historical site within the sacred quadrangle of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. Constructed during the reign of King Nissankamalla in the late 12th century, this structure served as a pavilion where the king would receive and listen to Buddhist chants. The building is characterized by its square layout, a surrounding stone railing, and most notably, its intricately carved granite pillars resembling lotus stems and flowers. While the roof is no longer intact, the remaining pillars and platform offer a glimpse into the architectural and religious practices of the ancient Polonnaruwa kingdom. The delicate carvings demonstrate the skill of ancient Sri Lankan artisans and the importance of Buddhism during this period.
