About About the place

The May 18th National Cemetery serves as a poignant reminder of the pro-democracy movement in Gwangju in 1980. The site encompasses a cemetery, a detailed museum, and a memorial hall, all dedicated to honoring those who perished during the uprising. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing the events, view a documentary film, and reflect at the gravesites. The park also includes surrounding areas with temples and a student center. It is considered a significant landmark for understanding modern Korean history and the pursuit of democracy.

The trip to this place has been an emotional and a moving experience. The collection displayed and the stories behind it leaves you with a lump in your throat and makes you understand the sad history which people had to go through.

We were so excited to visit this place but were thoroughly disappointed while reaching and looking at the mismanaged affair. The place was crowded with tourists and there was no system to arrange them. The staff was also very rude.
