Caluangan Lake, located in Barangay Wawa, Calapan City, is a natural treasure characterized by its tranquil waters and lush mangrove forests. The lake supports a diverse ecosystem of birds, fish, and other wildlife. While local livelihoods depend on the lake's resources, increasing fish pens and pollution pose a threat to its ecological balance. Efforts are underway by civic organizations to restore the mangroves and promote sustainable tourism. The lake offers a genuine rural tourism experience, with opportunities for boat tours and birdwatching, and views of the majestic Mt. Halcon.
Caluangan Lake is best suited for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those seeking a peaceful escape from the city. It's also appealing to travelers interested in experiencing rural tourism and supporting local communities.
The dry season (November to May) offers the most pleasant weather conditions.
Weekdays are less crowded than weekends. Early morning or late afternoon (sunset) are ideal for birdwatching and enjoying the scenic views.
Accessibility is limited. Reaching the lake requires travel to Barangay Wawa, and boat transport is necessary to access the lake itself. The terrain around the lake is uneven and may not be suitable for individuals with mobility impairments. There are no designated accessible facilities.
The boat ride can be enjoyable for children, but there are no specific kid-friendly activities or facilities. Parents should supervise children closely near the water. Stroller access is limited due to the terrain.
Not specified; pets are likely not allowed on boats.
There are no food facilities directly at the lake. Visitors may find small eateries in Barangay Wawa. Bringing your own snacks and drinks is recommended.
We were so excited to visit this place but were thoroughly disappointed while reaching and looking at the mismanaged affair. The place was crowded with tourists and there was no system to arrange them. The staff was also very rude.
We were planning for this vacation for a long time and it was really wonderful. Visiting these amazing places was a unique experience and we could make a day out of it enjoying and having interesting conversations with the locals. The people were really hospitable and warm and made sure we don't feel left out.
