Smith & Caughey's has been a cornerstone of Auckland's retail landscape since the 1880s. Operating from two locations – a mid-sized store on Queen Street in the CBD and a smaller branch in Newmarket – it provides a classic department store experience. The store features diverse departments including fashion, cosmetics, homewares, and fine foods. It is known for its quality products, attentive service, and elegant atmosphere, offering a shopping experience reminiscent of London department stores. The Queen Street location also houses a cafe, while both stores offer a curated selection of international and New Zealand brands.
We stayed in for one night here and the hotel was too expensive and not at all worth it. The place was a little crappy in shape and a lot of maintenance was going on and all the rooms were not even furnished properly. But we had no other option and had to stay therefore had to sacrifice and paid extra to stay a night.
We were so excited to visit this place but were thoroughly disappointed while reaching and looking at the mismanaged affair. The place was crowded with tourists and there was no system to arrange them. The staff was also very rude.
