The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located within the historic Citadel of Victoria (Rabat) on the island of Gozo, is a significant religious and architectural landmark. Constructed primarily of local limestone in the 17th century, the cathedral showcases elaborate Baroque design. Notably, it lacks a traditional dome, a feature compensated for by a remarkable trompe l'oeil painting on the ceiling that creates the illusion of one. The cathedral has been a site of worship since Roman times, evolving through various iterations to its current form, dedicated in 1716. It serves as a central point for religious observance and a captivating destination for visitors exploring Gozo's cultural heritage.
The cathedral is hundreds of years old and has a magnificent architecture. The murals and the walls are simply stunning. We got a chance to witness the prayer ceremony and it was divine. Do visit this place and do enjoy it.
