Kodokan Park centers around a school established in 1841 by Nariaki Tokugawa as a comprehensive training facility for the Tokugawa clan. The curriculum extended beyond martial arts to include academics like mathematics, language, and science. The original Kobuntei building was unfortunately destroyed during World War II but meticulously reconstructed between 1955 and 1958. The site holds significant historical importance as a hub of the Mito School (Mitogaku), which played a crucial role in shaping modern Japan and the Meiji Restoration. Visitors can explore the grounds, view exhibits detailing the school's history, and appreciate the traditional Japanese architecture and craftsmanship.
This was a beautiful park which has pretty scenery and lush greenery. It has walking pathways with proper trails lined with pretty trees and there are also plenty of benches to sit there for the people. The musical fountain was the highlight and it was amazing.
