The Chiesa di San Salvatore is a 16th-century church located in the village of Cabras, Sardinia. Its significance extends beyond its religious function, as it is built upon the foundations of an ancient Roman sanctuary and a pre-Roman pagan site dedicated to water worship. Visitors can descend into a well-preserved hypogeum, featuring faded frescoes, revealing the site’s long history of spiritual practice. The village itself evokes a classic Western film set, having served as a location for several spaghetti westerns. The church is particularly notable for hosting traditional Sardinian folk events known as 'cumbesias'.
Me and my wife stayed there over a weekend and were greeted by the kindest people ever. The city has an alluring charm to it and the locations are so raw and beautiful. All the historic landmarks are just well preserved and are enriched with stories and history. The people of this city are the warmest people i have ever known and overall this place is a magical experience.
