Forte Spagnolo is a substantial fortress built for defensive purposes. Remarkably, it never faced an attack or siege during its operational life. While the 2009 earthquake caused damage, the fort remains an imposing structure, situated within a small park. The museum formerly housed within the fort has relocated. Visitors appreciate the exterior and the surrounding area, though access to the interior is currently limited due to ongoing renovations. It's a notable landmark in L'Aquila, often enjoyed as part of an evening stroll.
