Benog Wildlife Sanctuary, often referred to as part of Rajaji National Park, is a forested area located approximately 10 kilometers from Library Chowk in Mussoorie. It's known for its dense vegetation and is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, particularly birdwatchers and trekkers. While sightings of larger animals are infrequent, the sanctuary provides a tranquil environment for exploring the natural beauty of the region. The trek to the sanctuary can be started from Clouds End or Hathi Paon, offering varying levels of difficulty. The area also features abandoned breweries and nearby temples, adding to its appeal.
The sanctuary is best suited for nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, trekkers, and those seeking a peaceful escape from the bustling town of Mussoorie. It's ideal for individuals and small groups who enjoy exploring natural environments.
Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) offer pleasant weather and are ideal for visiting. Avoid the monsoon season (July-August) due to heavy rainfall and slippery trails.
Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. Early morning or late afternoon are recommended for optimal birdwatching and cooler temperatures.
Accessibility is limited due to the natural terrain and trekking requirements. The trails are not suitable for wheelchairs or individuals with mobility impairments. The sanctuary is not considered easily accessible for those with disabilities.
The trek can be challenging for young children. Stroller access is not available. There are no dedicated kid activities or facilities.
Pets are generally not allowed within the sanctuary.
There are no food facilities within the sanctuary itself. Visitors should bring their own food and water. Restrooms are limited or unavailable.
There was nothing special about this speciality hotel and it was such a disappointment. The place was literally in ruins and it pinches me to see all my money goes to waste. The rooms were really dirty and unkept and the service was pathetic. I wont recommend this to anyone and it was the worst experience.
