The Kuzhanthai Velappar Temple is a historically significant shrine located in the heart of Poombarai village, approximately 25km from Kodaikanal. Believed to be over 3000 years old, the temple is associated with the same artisan, Bogar, who created the idol at Palani Murugan Temple. However, the deity here is uniquely sculpted from Dashabashanam (ten elements) compared to Palani’s Navabashanam (nine elements). Visitors come to this temple seeking blessings for good health and experience a tranquil environment, with views of the surrounding village and hills. The temple’s antiquity is evidenced by depictions on its stone walls, including a carving that some interpret as a dinosaur. It is considered by some to be more sacred than the Palani temple.
