Arulmigu Koniamman Temple is a historically important temple in Coimbatore, dating back to the 16th century, with some accounts suggesting origins over 1000 years ago. Dedicated to Goddess Koniamman, a form of Parvati, the temple is considered the guardian deity of the city. It played a role in the region's history, with legends linking its establishment to the protection of the city from invasion. The temple recently underwent renovations, including the completion of an 84-foot Rajagopuram in 2011, making it a prominent landmark. The annual car festival is a major event, and the temple is also popular for marriage ceremonies. The Navagrahas are uniquely worshipped here with their consorts.
