Harshat Mata Temple, dating back to the 9th century, is an archaeological site situated in the village of Abhaneri, Rajasthan, adjacent to the renowned Chand Baori stepwell. Originally dedicated to the goddess Harshat Mata, representing joy and happiness, the temple suffered significant damage during invasions, particularly by Islamic forces. While much of the original structure lies in ruins, scattered pillars, columns, and statues remain, showcasing intricate carvings and artistic skill. Restoration efforts are ongoing, but the temple retains a serene atmosphere and provides a poignant reminder of the region's historical and cultural significance. It is still an active place of worship for locals.
History enthusiasts, architecture lovers, photographers, and those seeking a peaceful and culturally enriching experience. It's particularly appealing to those already visiting the Chand Baori stepwell.
October to March offers the most pleasant weather.
Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. Early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
Accessibility is limited due to the temple's ruined state and uneven terrain. Stone steps and scattered debris pose challenges for individuals with mobility impairments. The site is not fully wheelchair accessible.
The temple may be of limited interest to young children due to its ruined condition. Stroller access is difficult. There are no dedicated facilities for children, such as changing rooms or play areas.
Pets are not allowed inside the temple grounds.
There are no food facilities directly at the temple. Limited options are available in the nearby village of Abhaneri. Visitors are advised to bring their own food and water, especially during warmer months. Restroom facilities are basic.
The place is so beautiful that I could not take my eyes off it. The place is a heritage building which has stunning architecture and the Victorian style walls are simply amazing. We visited the place on a weekday and it had a lot of people. But things were arranged in a proper way and we could have the tour nicely.
I did an 11 day tour in Iceland and it was awesome. The place is nothing I have ever seen and it was one of the best trips of my life. I went in June and the weather was great and clear. I visited all the main attractions and did some hiking and everything about this city seemed perfect. The best part was seeing the northern lights and being mesmerized by them. This place is definitely worth visiting.
Our visit to this[sight.name] was a nice and calming experience. Our guide was really great and made sure to keep sharing all the relevant information with us. The place is majestic and brings in so much peace and quiet within you.
There was nothing special about this speciality hotel and it was such a disappointment. The place was literally in ruins and it pinches me to see all my money goes to waste. The rooms were really dirty and unkept and the service was pathetic. I wont recommend this to anyone and it was the worst experience.
We were so excited to visit this place but were thoroughly disappointed while reaching and looking at the mismanaged affair. The place was crowded with tourists and there was no system to arrange them. The staff was also very rude.
