Lion Gate is a prominent entrance to the Naval Dockyard, a significant establishment in Mumbai serving both naval and commercial vessels. Situated in South Mumbai, near the Bombay Natural History Society and along Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, the gate is historically important and architecturally decorative. While not open to the public, it remains a recognizable landmark and a symbol of India's naval strength. Photography is generally prohibited due to security concerns. The area around the gate, particularly near Kalaghoda, offers access to other points of interest.
This landmark is best suited for those interested in naval history, architecture, or simply recognizing a prominent Mumbai landmark. It may appeal to individuals passing through the Colaba area.
The cooler, drier months (October to March) are the most pleasant for visiting Mumbai.
Weekdays generally experience less pedestrian traffic than weekends. Morning or late afternoon are preferable to avoid midday heat and potential traffic congestion.
The area surrounding Lion Gate is generally accessible, with paved sidewalks. However, the gate itself is not accessible for entry. Individuals with mobility impairments may find viewing the gate challenging due to potential obstructions and security barriers.
Lion Gate is not particularly geared towards children. There are no specific facilities or activities for kids. The area is primarily a landmark and a security zone.
Pets are not allowed within the vicinity of the Naval Dockyard.
There are numerous cafes and restaurants in the surrounding Colaba area, but no food facilities are located directly at Lion Gate.
There was nothing special about this speciality hotel and it was such a disappointment. The place was literally in ruins and it pinches me to see all my money goes to waste. The rooms were really dirty and unkept and the service was pathetic. I wont recommend this to anyone and it was the worst experience.
This is one of the most iconic and interesting buildings of the city where the architecture of this place speaks volume of its importance. It is a great place to visit and its tour throws some light on the history and working of this place.
We booked a tour package and thought that this would be a good way to see all the major sites of the city but it turned out to be nothing great. The tour bus stopped at all places but had not much time to make us roam around the area. Seemed like they were in a rush all the time and were not good with the local knowledge and culture. It was also expensive, which was not a great thing.
