The Tibetan Market in Calangute, Goa, is a longstanding marketplace specializing in goods sourced from the Himalayan region. Established as one of the oldest Tibetan markets in the area, it features a diverse array of items including jewelry (particularly oxidized silver), clothing, handicrafts, prayer flags, singing bowls, and decorative pieces. While some items may be sourced from elsewhere, the market provides a unique shopping experience with a strong emphasis on Tibetan culture and artistry. Haggling is a common practice and often expected. Several similar markets have emerged in nearby locations, but this one retains its reputation as the original.
The market is best suited for tourists and souvenir shoppers interested in unique Himalayan crafts, jewelry, and cultural items. It appeals to those who enjoy bargaining and browsing.
The shoulder seasons (March-May and September-November) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
Weekdays are typically less crowded than weekends. Evenings are generally more lively, but daytime visits offer a more relaxed browsing experience.
The market is generally accessible, being a relatively flat, open-air space. However, pathways can be narrow and uneven in places, potentially posing challenges for individuals with mobility impairments. Stroller access is possible but may be difficult during peak hours. Specific accessibility features like ramps or accessible restrooms are not consistently reported.
The market is generally suitable for children, but requires close supervision due to crowds. There are no dedicated kid-specific activities or facilities. Stroller access can be challenging during busy times. Changing facilities are not readily available.
Pets are generally not allowed.
The market itself does not have extensive food facilities, but there are restaurants and cafes located nearby, including Redonda Restaurant directly in front of the market. Restrooms are limited and may not be consistently maintained.
We were so excited to visit this place but were thoroughly disappointed while reaching and looking at the mismanaged affair. The place was crowded with tourists and there was no system to arrange them. The staff was also very rude.
We stayed in for one night here and the hotel was too expensive and not at all worth it. The place was a little crappy in shape and a lot of maintenance was going on and all the rooms were not even furnished properly. But we had no other option and had to stay therefore had to sacrifice and paid extra to stay a night.
It is a great place to stay and gives you much luxury and comfort at a great price. The service is great and the management was very prompt and was very helpful and assisted us with everything. The rooms were big and spacious, well maintained and the views from the window of the city skyline was just stunning. Loved my experience here!
This market is located at the heart of the city and is a very famous and iconic place but if you are someone who is looking for doing a lot of shopping then this place will be an expensive market where everything you buy or look for has a higher price compared to other markets.
While making our itinerary, we included this place towards the end and thought that incase we are behind time, we will skip it. But thank God, we didnt because it was one of the greatest places to visit. Easily accessible, conveniently located, gorgeous location and the easy navigation for the entire tour of this place made it much more fun and enjoyable. I will suggest everyone to please visit this place.
This is a must visit place in the city and it is beautiful. The place is centrally located and you can easily reach it. The stories and the facts of this place are very interesting and make way for an entertaining tour.
