Sankt Jakobi Church, dating back to around 1300, is a prominent example of red-brick Gothic architecture in Lübeck. Remarkably spared from significant damage during the 1942 bombing, the church retains many of its original features, including impressive altars, paintings, sculptures, and a beautiful astronomical clock. It holds particular significance as the traditional church for seafaring men and their families, housing a touching memorial to those lost at sea, notably the crew of the Pamir sailing ship. The church is also a venue for classical concerts, particularly organ recitals.
