Synagogenplatz

Synagogenplatz is a historically significant site in Cleves, Germany, representing the location of the former Jewish synagogue. This synagogue, like many others across Germany, was demolished during the Nazi-orchestrated Kristallnacht in 1938. The Jewish community in Cleves was relatively small, intentionally limited by Prussian policies. Following the collapse of the Hohenzollern dynasty, the community became increasingly vulnerable, and after Hitler’s rise to power, many members were forced to leave or were tragically murdered. Today, the site serves as a memorial to the lost synagogue and the Jewish citizens of Cleves.
