Lustheim Palace, originally a hunting lodge commissioned by Maximilian in the early 18th century for his marriage to Maria Antonia, is now home to the Dr. Ernst Schneider Collection of Meissen porcelain. Damaged during WWII, the palace underwent restoration in the 1970s and opened to the public in 1971 as a branch of the Bavarian National Museum. The collection is considered one of the most significant of its kind, second only to that found in Dresden, and offers a comprehensive overview of Meissen porcelain artistry. The palace itself, with its intricate decorations, is also a noteworthy attraction.
