The New World Museum (Musee du Nouveau-Monde) in La Rochelle, France, is dedicated to the historical relationship between France and the Americas. Housed within an imposing chateau, the museum details the exploration, colonization, and exploitation of the New World, with a significant focus on the transatlantic slave trade and its impact on both sides of the Atlantic. Exhibits cover French involvement in Canada, the West Indies, and the experiences of First Nations peoples. The museum aims to present a nuanced and sensitive portrayal of this complex history, acknowledging both the achievements and the injustices of the colonial era.
