Virgin's Tree

The Virgin's Tree is a site of religious significance, particularly for Christians, believed to be where the Virgin Mary and the Holy Family rested during their flight into Egypt. The original tree, under which Mary is said to have sheltered, is no longer living, but its remains are preserved. The site also includes a well, historically associated with the family, though it is now known to be contaminated. Located in the Zeitoun district, the area is modest and contrasts with the historical importance of the site. A small entry fee is required.
