Metkovic Natural History Museum

The Metkovic Natural History Museum offers a focused exploration of the natural heritage of the Neretva River valley in Croatia. The museum’s collection comprises approximately 340 species, including 218 observed in the river and surrounding swamps. Exhibits feature preserved specimens of birds, fish, and mammals, with a particular emphasis on avian species. Interactive elements, such as touchscreens and audio recordings of bird sounds, enhance the visitor experience. The collection was largely assembled between 1948 and 1966 and provides insight into species that once thrived in the area, as well as those that are now rare or absent due to human impact. The museum aims to educate visitors about the unique ecological characteristics of the region.
