Xialu Temple

Xialu Temple, also known as Shalu Monastery, is a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated between Gyantse and Shigatse. Established in the 11th century, it's renowned for its unique architectural style and historical importance as one of the earliest monasteries in Tibet. The monastery features multiple levels, with accessible floors offering views of the surrounding Shigatse area. While smaller than some other monasteries in Tibet, it provides a peaceful and insightful experience for those interested in Tibetan Buddhism and culture. A permit obtained from Shigatse is required for visitation.
