The Jewish Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located within the historic Old Synagogue, built in 1581. The museum chronicles the 400-year history of Jewish life in Bosnia, from the arrival of Sephardic Jews fleeing Spain to the devastating impact of the Holocaust and the community’s subsequent decline. Exhibits include artifacts, photographs, and historical documents, offering insights into the cultural, religious, and social contributions of Jewish people to Bosnian society. The synagogue itself remains in use for occasional services, adding to the site’s significance.
The place is so beautiful that I could not take my eyes off it. The place is a heritage building which has stunning architecture and the Victorian style walls are simply amazing. We visited the place on a weekday and it had a lot of people. But things were arranged in a proper way and we could have the tour nicely.
