The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is a prominent Catholic church in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Established on July 5th, 1881, during the Austro-Hungarian period, it stands as the largest cathedral in the country and serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna. The cathedral experienced significant damage during the 1990s but has undergone extensive repairs and restoration. Its neo-Gothic architecture and central location make it a recognizable symbol of the city. A statue of Pope John Paul II stands prominently in front of the cathedral, commemorating his visit in 1910. Guests can often hear choral music emanating from within, and masses are occasionally held in English.
