Gubara is a walking track located within Kakadu National Park, known for its relatively quiet atmosphere and rewarding rock pools at the trail's end. The hike is approximately 3 kilometers each way, traversing open woodland, rocky escarpments, and monsoon forest. While the initial portion of the trail can be exposed and dry, the final stretch leads to a shaded oasis with several pools suitable for swimming, though caution is advised due to the potential presence of crocodiles. The area also holds historical significance as a filming location for 'Crocodile Dundee 2'.
Gubara is best suited for adults and older children who enjoy hiking and swimming and are comfortable with a moderate level of physical activity. It's also ideal for those seeking a more secluded and peaceful experience in nature.
The dry season (May to October) is the most comfortable time to visit, with lower humidity and less risk of flooding. However, the pools may be smaller during this time.
Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. Early morning or late afternoon are recommended to avoid the heat of the day.
The trail is not fully accessible. The initial section is a relatively flat, sandy track, but it becomes more challenging with rocky terrain and uneven surfaces. The rock pools are not easily accessible for those with mobility issues. There are no designated accessible facilities.
